Murals

Artist's Overview...

Beauty is eternal despite life's complexity. It is this belief that runs through as an undercurrent in my work. The beauty that I speak of does not merely refer to that which uplifts or pleases our sensibilities, but arouses a feeling of basic trust that persists even as life embraces human imperfection.

The centralized idea of my work is the knowledge that a woman gains while searching for stability, security and self-respect in this world, often at great emotional cost to herself. I seek to extract meaning from the intervening moments and spaces, between the dreams and actualities and the events representing the female conditions. For me it is a sanctuary within her own psyche to which a woman retreats.

As a Female, and an Artist l can observe what a woman has to contend with when confronted by a plethora of restrictive socio-cultural attitudes, where she wishes to gift herself freedom to flutter freely like a butterfly in the turbulent environment. She systematically uses her inherent inner strength to invert restrictive social norms in the course of her life.

My female protagonists often remain isolated, because they take on their individual journey, assuming the role of nurturer and stabilizer, thus quietly marginalising their own progressive individuality. In the changing environments she aspires to reach out to newer horizons. There is a quiet sense of partial freedom and hope in their gaze. I use a flexi-combination of texture, colour, lines, modulated mass and volume to give the larger than life canvas figurations a near sculpted quality. They are rounded and reasonant.

The essential forces that create the canvas of a woman's world are her disquieting circumstances, everyday reality, virtual images and her inherent traits of fantasizing, which allow her to journey between the dual worlds of real life and dreams with ease.
